I'm in the process of making two jigs. One is somewhat similar to your idea, but a bit simpler design. I got a door hinge at Home Depot, 2" angle steel, and some 2" wide x 1/8" steel. Similar to the picture below. The other is a flat grinding jig similar to the hollow grind jig sold by Jantz (Well similar premise anyway).
