And that the basic rule of thumb for grinding metal was approximately 1 hp per inch of belt width. I have a couple of belt sanders made for wood, they don't move much metal. I plan to Convert my bench grinder into drum a sander. I will remove the wheels and put a 1/2" chuck on it. In the chuck, I could either put a sanding drum, Flap sander or a flex shaft. The adapter is basically a threaded arbor on a shank, with a nut and two extra-wide washers to hold the wheel on both sides. To insert the disc, slide the nut and top washer off the top of the shaft. Put the disc on, then the other washer and nut. Tighten the nut so the washers firmly hold the disc from both sides.
